• Copper sulfides describe a family of chemical compounds and minerals with the formula CuxSy.
• Both minerals and synthetic materials comprise these compounds. Some copper sulfides are economically important ores.
• Synonyms are cupric sulfide, copper sulphide, cuprous sulphide and copper (II) Sulfide.
• Form of crystalline solid available in blue-black or black colour compound having density 4800 kg m-3.Prominent copper sulfide minerals include Cu2S (Chalcocite) and CuS (covellite).
