Plastics are an essential part to our daily life. For instance, without plastics, 400 percent more material by weight, and 200 percent more material by volume would be needed to make packaging. The recycling of plastics continued to grow in 1997. More than 1.3 billion pounds of post-consumer plastics packaging were recycled in the United States.
