Rauwolfia Serpentina

Rauvolfia (Rauwolfia serpentina) is a small woody perennial from Indian and the East Indies.
Roots of this plant yield the alkaloid reserpine. The alkaloid is effective for snake bites and scorpion stings. Although a number of alkaloids have been extracted from Rauwolfia serpentina the most effective derivativeis reserpine. Rauwolfia has been employed for centuries for the relief of various central nervous system disorders, both psychic and motor, including anxiety states, excitement, maniacal behaviour associated with psychosis, schizophrenia, insanity insomnia and epilepsy.
